- Due to a known common problem with the instrument clusters on GM vehicles, removed cluster from vehicle and examined for cracked solder joints on instrument cluster circuit board. Found several resistors cracked at connection to board. This poor connection was causing the cluster to go blank randomly. Reattached and reworked the resistors with a more secure bond to the circuit board. Found 4 light bulbs burned out for the backlighting of the cluster. Removed and re-attached new bulbs that were not working originally. Found fuel gauge was not moving and displaying empty at all times. Determined that the fuel gauge stepper motor had failed. Replaced all 6 gauge stepper motors to eliminate any possible future failure.
