  • Engine oil was leaking, refrigerant gas was leaking, and engine coolant was leaking from the vehicle. The most intensive repair was the resealing of the front cover of the engine, which was leaking some oil from the joints at where it overlaps the cylinder heads and block junction points. Upon assembly, silicone was thoroughly packed into the joint to prevent future leakage. This is unlike the factory, which does not install enough silicone packing to seal the joint area. All surfaces were thoroughly cleaned and dried throughout the procedure. The engine was removed along with the entire powertrain assembly to perform this job. The oil filter adapter seal was beginning to seep some oil and it was replaced while the engine was removed and access was easy. Afterwards, as much engine oil and accumulation of wet dirt from oil leakage was cleaned off as possible. The engine coolant pump was leaking coolant from it's internal shaft seal, and was replaced easily because of the engine oil leakage repairs. The pump was replaced with a factory pump to ensure long life. The air conditioning compressor manifold line set was leaking. The discharge pipe portion was leaking refrigerant gas from a crimp. The system was significantly low on refrigerant. Afterwards, the system was recharged with the proper amount of gas. The air conditioning system now blows very cold. After repairs were completed, the engine and frame assembly were installed into the vehicle. The engine contains new engine oil and a GM oil filter. The cooling system was vacuum filled with factory coolant. The engine was tested for operation and leaks. Nothing wrong was identified.

When belt was off we checked all pulleys and the idler pulley was noisy, replaced idler pulley. Test drove, noise is gone. Tested charging system, and negative battery terminal was loose. Tightened both battery terminal ends and treated with battery corrosion inhibitor. Could not duplicate battery light coming on.
  • Could not duplicate
  • Air tube from air filter to throttle body was torn half way around and allowing unmetered air to enter engine. Replaced air intake tube. Test drove after repairs and could not duplicate.

  • The engine oil was drained, the drain plug washer was replaced with a factory seal, the oil filter was replaced with a factory oil filter, and the oil was refilled with Mobil One oil of the correct grade. Afterwards, the condition based service was reset, and a reset of the oil life, vehicle check, front brake fluid level check, and a check of the brake pads were carried out.
  • Please refer to section regarding oil leakage findings and repairs. Please refer to section regarding coolant leakage findings and repairs. The vehicle was in great shape via carrying out a main inspection of the vehicle. Nothing was found except for the engine system items described in other sections.
  • The cooling system was found to have two minor leaks, but over time it has likely added up to cause some coolant loss. The small amount of coolant loss caused no harm to the vehicle. The engine oil filter housing profile seal sealing from adapter to cylinder head assembly was seeping coolant. At the same time, the oil heat exchanger seal between exchanger and adapter was seeping some oil, so it was replaced as well because it was readily available for access during repairs. The upper engine main coolant hose was found to be stress cracking and the plastic becoming mushy internally. The plastic was seeping some coolant at the portion as to where it adjoins to the oil filter adapter unit. The seals and hose described were replaced with genuine BMW items. Afterwards, BMW coolant was replenished via vacuum filling. The electric water pump bleeding procedure was carried out, to ensure absolutely no air pockets remained in the cooling circuit. The vehicle was then verified for hot heat, and it was hot. The coolant level was rechecked after test driving, and the level remained in position. The low coolant level warning was simply because the reservoir tank became low on coolant, which was a result of the leakages.
  • The tire pressures were all roughly at factory specification and are not out of the pressure tolerance allowance range. The tires are in great shape and should last multiple years.
  • The worst of the oil leakage was the cylinder head cover. The injector and spark plug cavity was filled with oil due to several stress cracks in the cylinder head cover. This is very common. The cylinder head cover took several weeks to arrive, and once it did, it took several tries to source one that did not arrive broken. One was sourced again from BMW and the cover was in good shape. The assembly was installed. The engine oil filter adapter seal and the engine oil heat exchanger seal were leaking oil, and this procedure and report is detailed underneath the section regarding the coolant leakage findings. All oil and coolant leakage were cleaned thoroughly from the engine. The service charge for the oil heat exchanger and oil filter reseal […]

  • Two noises were identified during testing of the vehicle. The engine cylinder head seal was found to have failed slightly, causing coolant to leak into the engine combustion chambers, which upon start up of the combustion engine during gasoline mode, allowed for incomplete combustion to happen within cylinders two and three. The cylinder head seal was replaced, and the surface of the cylinder head and engine cylinder block were checked to be perfectly flat. No issue was found. The engine was reassembled and reinstalled into the vehicle. All safety procedures were followed during high voltage repairs relating to the high voltage propulsion system. The engine was filled with new engine oil and a new Toyota oil filter was installed. The engine cooling system and the inverter cooling system was vacuum filled with Toyota coolant. All seals were replaced that were disturbed in any way to ensure no leakage and no return visits. Engine patterns and adaptive memory were relearned to accept the repairs made and so that it will function well. The intake manifold was cleaned of carbon as best as possible during repairs. This manifold is quite known for clogging up with exhaust gas over time, thus causing faults in the future. Doing this now prevented a future issue. The second noise was the electric air conditioning compressor assembly. The compressor assembly had an internal lockup, and refused to operate sometimes. The compressor would make a loud knocking noise when it would operate. The air conditioning compressor was replaced with a factory unit. In fact, all parts used during this repair are factory parts. The seals were replaced as necessary on the lines attaching to the compressor and at any intermediate junction points of the refrigerant gas lines. The refrigerant system was recharged with refrigerant and polyolester oil was added to the system as necessary.
  • Replaced right low beam bulb. The bulb that was installed previously was not even locked in place and installed correctly, however the new bulb is perfect in it's installation.

  • Previously the air conditioning compressor clutch was diagnosed to be defective. The only way to repair this concern is to replace the compressor assembly. A genuine item was cheaper and will be more robust so one was used. The seals at the compressor were replaced and air conditioning system was recharged and passes a leak check. The engine coolant was topped off with GM coolant.
  • A headlamp was identified to be defective in the left lens assembly, and replacement of the bulb rectified the concern.

  • The reverse lamp was found to have a broken filament. The left reverse lamp was replaced via removal of the entire lens assembly on the left side and replacing the bulb with the correct bulb. After installation, the turn signal bulb failed to work in the same lens. This likely broke because of age and the slightest bounce resulted in the breakage of the turn signal bulb filament. THis bulb was replaced and the lens was reinstalled. All bulbs work well on the vehicle.
  • The Q46 purge valve was tested and found to be defective. After replacement the purge valve is no longer allowing vapor into the engine intake manifold. The fault is gone and the vehicle has been repaired.
